Description of service
We have a contract with a local propane company. We were a customer for 2 years when they offered a new service where they averaged your per price amount for the previous year based on what you used. That was then divided by 12. We get a bill 12 months out of the year and are delivered a specific amount each month during the winter based on our usage for the previous year.
Review of Service
This process works out great for a lot of reasons. First of course is that as the prices have risen our costs have not. This does mean that next year our contract will probably be for significantly more but for this year it's worked out great. It also means we know exactly how much to budget each month which helps out a lot. Before we'd have huge bills in the winter and struggle all the way through. Now it's evened out. The other thing that's great is that since we only get a specific amount of propane each month during the winter months it forces us to keep our usage down.
Tips
If you have a program like this available I highly recommend taking advantage of it. However, look into how much it will cost if you need to make an additional purchase outside of your contract. Our cost if were were to buy additional propane is well above what a normal purchase would be. Look out for this.
