Description of service
I paid $110 for an 8 week series of classes in flamenco dancing. The class is in beginning flamenco, taught by an Emmy-award winning flamenco dancer! She teaches all different levels of flamenco classes in San Francisco and Berkeley and comes highly recommended! The class is all women.
If I miss a class for any reason, I can make it up by taking a different beginning class (she teaches 3 of them a week).
She also offers additional workshops but those are usually $40 each.
Review of Service
The teacher is wonderful. She is caring and gentle and knows each member of the class by name even though it's only been 3 weeks and she has dozens of students in all her different classes.
She teaches in a systematic manner, going at just about the right speed for most people in the class. There are some more advanced women in the class who aren't ready for the advanced class but aren't total beginners, and she modifies the lessons so that everyone is challenged, not just the beginners. I always feel tired and energized at the same time after a class!
It was a bit of an investment to start, as you need to buy flamenco shoes (I think those run from between $50 to $100 ), a leotard, and a flamenco skirt (between $30 and $80 or so). The teacher also recommends that we bring audio recorders, but luckily I had one and didn't have to buy that also.
Tips
This kind of class should be fun. Most teachers will let you try one class for free, or only have you pay for it if you decide to do the series. Check on this before you try something completely new. Also, make sure you can afford the equipment or uniform/outfit needed.
