Description of service

The class I took was a beginning Chinese class. It lasted 12 weeks and cost $1200 which did not include books. Including books the total cost was around $1350.

Review of Service

At my office we are working more and more with Chinese business men. I thought it would be advantageous to learn a few words in which to correspond with them. I found a class at a local community college. It was taught mostly online, with assignments and interactive tests due there. Once every two weeks we met in real life and practiced speaking to one another.

I don't think this is a very good way to learn a language. We definitely needed more one on one time and more practice speaking and hearing Chinese. The class also focused a little too much on the history and culture of the Chinese which just wasn't necessary for my needs.

That said, I did learn a bit and can now at least make some basic greetings to our Chinese clients.

Tips

Online classes have their place and time but learning a language through them is not a very good idea. Try to find a class where you can practice using the language more and can get some one on one time.
