Description of service
I paid $40 for a one-way trip from La Guardia Airport to Manhattan, a few blocks away from the Empire State building where we were staying. I also paid a $4 tip.
Review of Service
It was about a 25 minute ride from the airport to the place where we were staying, mainly because once we got into Manhattan itself things were moving very slowly. The driver asked the typical cab driver questions such as "Where are you from?", "Is this your first time to New York?", etc. But I feel like we may have been taken advantage of a bit simply because the driver new we were from out of town and our first trip to NYC. So once we got into Manhattan it sure seemed like we did a lot of weaving and backtracking once we got close to our hotel. I read some reviews online ahead of time so I was prepared to pay between $30-$40 dollars for the trip, but I felt like at the time it may have been a bit overpriced.
Tips
As I found out on my way back to the airport from that trip, I found that I did overpay. I was staying at a very nice hotel with a very helpful concierge staff who was able to reserve a town-car to take us back to the airport for $35. So when looking to take a cab to or from the airport, ask your hotel staff what is the best way to do it as they may have some resources to help you save some money.
