the Price of a Taxi Ride to the Airport

There is only one taxi service that is allowed to take passengers away from SeaTac Airport near Seattle. The cost includes $2.50 for pick up, $2 per mile for the trip, $1 "airport toll" plus $5 tip for the driver.

The car took us from the airport at about 10:30pm and drove us straight home--about 5 miles north of the city center.

No matter when our flight lands, there is always a line of cabs waiting. It's very nice to be able to rely on them being there.

This time, the car was a large 9-passenger van, which I tried to avoid, since there were only two of us and one large suitcase. It seemed to be quite wasteful to me, until I learned that it was a natural gas vehicle, which made it a little better.

The driver was very friendly and happy to make small talk about the weather, the holidays, and travel in and around Seattle. He was also very knowledgeable about the area and directing him to our home was very easy.

Though it's not the cheapest way to get to or from the Seattle airport, the taxi service is quite reliable.

We decided it was the best choice for us, since parking at the airport would have cost about the same and we preferred to leave the car parked at home.
