Description of service
As you know the sole of a pair of trainers wraps up over or just beneath the toes at the front of the shoe. The service was to glue back on the rubber from the sole where it meets the toe as it had started peeling off with use. The repair was to a pair of sneakers that had cost over $120. The cost of this service was $20 (which included glue costs, labor costs and tax) to glue back the sole where it wraps around the toes. The cobbler said he had done this many times before and used "special glue" for this kind of work.
Review of Service
The sole looked like it was glued on effectively. It was a neat job and you couldn't see that it had been glued back on. But I would have been as well gluing it on with chewing gum or flour and water. 20 minutes of running and the soles were back in their original peeling state. The service was probably okay if you were going to go walking around the house or office, but forget it if you want to do serious running. Or, maybe I just run weird and any repair would have been destroyed.
Tips
Don't do it. Save your $20 bucks for a new pair of shoes. The "special glue" is not special. I have no idea how the factory put shoes together but your local guy is not going to mimic the technique.
