Description of service
One day of after-school daycare; included pick-up of child from school, ten-minute walk with adult to the facility, 3 hours of care.
Snack of healthy food that was OK for his allergies was included.
Review of Service
staff was excellent at being sure there was a plan for picking up at school and walking him over
staff asked ahead of time about allergies, etc, and his regular plan after school so that they could keep him in some sort of routine (he is only 7)
staff did not just put him in front of the tv; offered to help with reading for school, had some crafts, asked about his day; they seemed to talk to him instead of just trying to keep him occupied and quiet.
Tips
take child to facility ahead of time, be sure they meet the staff that will be caring for them on the given day
have a safety plan in place; children are taught to not trust strangers, so make sure they know who they can trust to pick them up
check out the facility ahead of time to see if things seem to be in order; a facility that is not okay with spot checks means that something might be wrong... that would make me suspicious.
