I have been trying to sell my condo for almost eight months now and have had only one offer which was very low. I have been trying to sell it on my own, but the bad real estate market finally forced me to hire a real estate agent. In this case my agent received 5% of the home selling cost for all the paper work and publicizing that she did. This would up to be about $10000. I wish I didn't have to pay this cost, but with a selling price of $200,000 that is a small chunk of change to get it sold. Worth the cost.
Review of Service
My real estate agent did just about everything you could think of the help sell my condo. She set up a website with an interactive tour of my place highlighting all the features of the condo. She also made some fliers for the same reason. She really went above and beyond to sell my house. Since I didn't know much about selling a house it's no wonder I couldn't sell it on my own. I'll let the professionals do their job and I'll just hire and listen to their advice.
Tips
A few years ago you might have been able to sell your own house, but today it's more and more difficult. Fewer people want to buy a house so any advantage you can think of will help.
