Description of service
I sold my house with a local real estate agent. They marketed to property (online and in the paper and local real estate magazines) for me and handled all the particulars to make it easy for me to sell. It cost me 6% of the sale price of my home which ended up being about $9,600.
Review of Service
The service was good overall, but I was in the dark and kept out of the loop more than I liked. However, the house was sold in an acceptable amount of time and marketing was up to par. One negative was having to deal with the homeowners association and getting the resale packet... would've been nice for the agent to have been more helpful in that.
Tips
I would definitely suggest interviewing more than one agent and seeing what each has to offer... don't listen to any lies or gimmicks (like I can sell your house for this enormous amount), but listen to the services they offer. Ask the agent to spell out in writing all marketing services he/she will provide. Also, asking them provide weekly status updates can be very helpful. More than anything else, make sure your house in priced correctly from the beginning.
