Description of service
I was missing a tooth due to an accident as a child and there was a tooth in front and behind the tooth. To replace the missing tooth I decided to get a bridge. For the bridge the dentist put a crown on the tooth in front and behind the missing space. Both of these crowns were connected to each other by a fake tooth that filled in the space of the missing tooth. The total procedure took 1.5 weeks from start to finish and was two appointments. At the first appointment the dentist anesthetized the teeth he was going to be working on. After that he prepared the teeth in front and behind the space to receive crowns and took and impression with some blue and purple material that felt like rubber when it hardened. Finally, he made a temporary bridge to protect the teeth, which had been prepared for crowns. This appointment took about one hour. A week and a half later I returned for the second appointment. At this appointment the dentist checked the fit of the bridge. When he was stratified that it fit well he cemented it in place. Finally, he adjusted my bite until it felt good. I paid for the bridge out of pocket, I had no insurance coverage. Also, the cost of the bridge was $1,250 per unit. Because the bridge covered 3 teeth it was 1,250 X 3.
Review of Service
Overall I was satisfied with the service. The bridge cost a little more money because it was tooth colored. An all gold bridge was a little cheaper but I did not want to have gold in my mouth because I don’t think it looks as good a something that is the same color as the other teeth. I was also very happy with the temporary bridge. Temporary crowns I have had in the past have all fallen off and with this one I never had a problem. I don’t t know if that is because the dentist used a better glue or if he just did a better job. Whatever the case I was happy I did not have to return to have the temporary cemented on.
Tips
For anyone thinking about getting a bridge I would be sure you trust you dentist because a bridge is an expensive procedure to have done. I would also ask about the different types of materials that can be used to make the bridge. The bridge does not have to be gold and can be tooth colored so you need to know that is one of your options.
