Casual childcare for 11 year old child
I have an 11 year old child who on occasion needs childcare. For the most part, he can take care of himself. He knows how to get his own food and what to do in case of emergency. He requires a babysitter just to make sure he doesn't do anything he shouldn't.
The babysitter we use charges $10 per visit or $2 per hour, whichever is more. We usually use her about 3 hours per week, and once in a while for a full day on the weekends. She is available at all times as she does not work, and usually can come at a moment's notice. She does not do any housework while she is watching my son, but she also doesn't make any messes or eat our food (although she is perfectly welcome to it).
Aside from watching movies and talking with him, she also takes time to play games that he enjoys, such as Monopoly and various children's card games.
Review of Service
My son enjoys the company of his babysitter. She talks to him like an adult, so he feels empowered when she is around. He also likes that his opinion matters to her. I have always been perfectly satisfied with her.
Tips
If you are going to have a backup babysitter or a casual babysitter, make sure they get along with your children and can follow your rules. It's also important to negotiate terms before having them stay with your child.
