Description of service
$140 is the weekly price for childcare for two children. This is a discounted rate, as the regular price is $80 per child, per week.
Review of Service
Raising children is expensive. Having two children in childcare is outrageously expensive! My two young nieces were living with my husband and myself in 2006, and since we both worked, I investigated child care options. As we lived in an area I was not too familiar with (and thus was leery of finding a trusted individual for in-home care), I went with a church run program. There was a $50 application fee that was used sort of like a deposit, but it was not returned. It was more of a guarantee fee. The $140 was prepaid weekly. If your child was absent due to illness or vacation, you still paid the fee so that your spot was held open. You were responsible for your own diapers and Pull Ups unless the child was totally potty trained. Training pants were strongly discouraged in favor of "disposable underpants". If your child was using a bottle or baby food, you were responsible for bringing that. Older children who ate solid foods could eat whatever was served that day in the cafeteria.
Tips
Even if you're new to an area, you can usually get some feedback if you just ask. If you're in line at a supermarket and notice someone buying toddler treats, mention that your child likes/liked those as well. This should start a mini conversation perfect for introducing the childcare question. Always ask providers what they provide and what you are expected to bring. See if they offer discounts for 2 or more children (surprisingly, a few do not). Don't necessarily go for the cheapest child care option. Trust your gut feelings!
