the Cost of Professional Memberships and Organizations

I joined a local Paralegal association which is supposed to provide networking resources, notification of available employment, and online support relating to case law changes and summaries and also guidance and support for other professional in the profession.

I really enjoy being a part of this association. The contacts I have met have kept me in touch and up to date with all of the recent changes in the law. It has also helped me to meet others in my field who can help out when I am in a pinch or just talk when I am frustrated with my job. Its a support no other group can provide because only these other people done the job I do and deal daily with the same frustrations I have.

I would recommend researching local groups to verify that they are legitimate. Also, try to find a large state/regional chapter instead of just a local chapter. These associations seem to have more contacts and are able to provide additional networking in areas that local chapters may not have any connections. Always go in with an open mind and be positive about your experiences. While everyone wants to know your story, they may not want to wallow in your misery with you.
