Description of service
This price is for one year of membership in a state teacher's union. It is mandatory to belong to this union but it does have some helpful benefits. For this amount of money, you get a membership card which entitles you to discounts in many places (everyone's into giving discounts to teachers - it's really great), a professional magazine each month, legal representation, and more. Most of the benefits are things you hope you will never need (like the legal representation!) but are essential to have if you ever do need them.
Review of Service
It bothers me that I have to belong to this organization. I would prefer to choose if I want to be affiliated with it, but I don't have that choice. Because I don't have the choice, I get annoyed a lot of the time that this money comes out of my paycheck. In addition, although I have never had to use the legal representation, I have had one colleague who needed to and it was of very little help.
Tips
I am not sure if it's entirely legal to be mandated to join a professional group, so I would check around to make sure that it is, if you are interested in not being a part of it. However it is not that much money and it does have its benefits.
