Description of service
A tummy tuck begins with finding a surgeon that is qualified to perform. Even AFTER you have found someone qualified it is imperitive that you confirm their status as a licensed and board certified surgeon. Everyones heard the horror stories of non-qualified doctors and do NOT be fooled by the paper plaques in their offices. I did not and read the paper plaque on my 12-13th visit after a horrible surgery and found it was a certificate to a French Cuisine Cooking Class. Seriously. You will be prepped by the doctor showing how and where he will cut and give a description of the surgery. Generally, you should 2 to 3 visits to a surgeon before it is preformed. The operation, depending on amount of skin needed to remove will take from 2-5 hours and will involve VERY invasive cuts, leaving inevitable scarring. You will require a hospital stay from 1-3 days barring complications. You will NOT see results right away, it will take approximately 6 months total for this.
Review of Service
The quality of servive I recieved I really hope is not the norm. i was given shots and left in a hospital bed with no roll guards and had fallen out of bed, tearing open my incision. As well,I could not get assistance getting up to go to the bathroom and made a mess in bed, which I was later criticized by all the nurses for. The surgery was painful in itself and due to my complications while at the hospital I took much longer to heal. I developed what I found out was a very common problem, a massive hematoma (collection of blood and fluid) under my incision site. There was so much that it felt like I had one of the old hot water bottles tied to my stomach,I could feel it swishing while walking. Unfortunately, there is nothing that can be done, merely wait for the fluid to reabsorb. It took many, many visits to heal and a very long time for my swelling to go down, but I believe the results,9 months down the line, helped my self esteem and ability to pursue many new ventures in my life.
Tips
Please, please, please research your surgeons THOROUGHLY. There is no more important part. Be prepared for pain and a long healing process, thats the price of beauty. Understand as well that you will be left with a very large scar (mine extends from behind one hipbone to the other) and that the results may NOT be exactly what you were looking for. Doctors are doctors and not magicians. You will not be perfect. If you see a scar that won't tan like the rest of your skin as a flaw then most certainly this is not the surgery for you. If you have accomplished great weight loss and are confident you will stay at the weight you are at, then I highly recommend it as a reward for all of your hard work.
