Description of service
Bundled telephone, broadband internet, and all inclusive satellite television package. This service is provided by a company who negotiated a package with the building developer thus creating a virtual monopoly on service. There is no alternative service available.
Review of Service
It has become a trend for residential building developers to negotiate a deal with telecommunications providers giving exclusive right to sell these services to future occupants of the building. Typically, they are bundled services including telephone, internet, and television. The package available to me consisted of broadband internet, telephone with unlimited domestic long distance, and satellite television with an all inclusive package. Total price approximates $175 per month. Firstly, the telephone service leaves a lot to be desired. Dropped calls are common and connections often poor. I was forced to spend additional money purchasing a package from another VoIP provider which performs much better. The broadband internet service provided has proven to be fast and reliable. The satellite television has a wide array of channels, but experiences disruptions during rain or even sometimes just from moving clouds. This can prove disconcerting during a big game. Overall, I would rate the service mediocre. However, as indicated, one really has no economical alternative in these situations.
Tips
Prior to purchasing or leasing an apartment it is prudent to ask about providers available for internet, telephone and television. This is especially true for a new development. Research the options provided, and if possible ask current occupants about their experiences with the particular provider.
