the Price of Six Months of Car Insurance

I had an accident and my premium tripled. My insurance is basic state minimus for a 2005 honda accord.

When I first purchased this policy I was driving a '96 Pathfinder and was only paying $49 a month. I had never had an accident in the 9 years I had been driving untill I purchased my new policy! I had one fender bender unbelievably the day after my policy went into effect! My insurance company was very helpful and quick to give me a check to fix my car. Unfourtunetly the accident was listed as my fault and my insurance tripled. My insurance company had given me a check for $1300 to fix the damage to my car which I ended up being able to get fixed for $250. Had I not taken the check to the bank like an idiot I probably could have saved myself alot more money in the end because my premiums would not have been raised so high. Little by little my premium had been coming down, a measly $25 every 6 months, but I recently purchased a new vehicle and now they have gone back up. I do like my insurance company, I just don't like what happens when you have an accident!

You should shop around a little, after I purchased my new vehicle I looked around for a slightly cheaper policy only to find that the one that I had is actually not that bad. I was quoted by another well known insurance company almost $500 more for a 6 month premium. Also if you have an accident, don't alwasy trust what the insurance companies estimate is to fix the damages. If you can get it done cheaper then what they say and don't mind paying out of pocket and not taking the check they give you you could potentialy save yourself alot more money down the road by not paying higher premiums. I wish I had!
