Description of service
My dog chased a squirell into a cactus plant and ended up with a face full of needles and also some needles in one of her legs. She was very swollen and we took her to an emergency vet to have the needles removed and also to give her something to decrease swelling and pain
Review of Service
The service was very good, but very expensive. The vets were very understanding. They seemed to really care about the pain that our dog was in, and they went out of their way to make sure that she was comfortable. They were also concerned about us and were very encouraging. They scheduled some follow-up visits and our dog is doing very well now (there's really no sign that ther ewas ever a problem.)
Tips
I'd never seriously considered health insurance for my pet until after this. This service was very expensive, and insurance would have covered almost all of it. Aside from that, when there's an emergency there isn't a lot of time for shopping around for the best deal or the best service. If possible, check out all the emergency vet services in your area (if there are several to choose from,) and find out which one will be the best for you before you have to actually use their services. We were lucky to find a vet that was very good, but I've heard some bad stories about other local emergency vets. Definitely do your homework before you need this type of service.
