Description of service
We found a teacher that was willing to take on a small class of 8-12 year old kids for several lessons over the summer. The lessons were weekly and there wasn't any homework. It was kind of informal as far as the information they covered and the words they learned. I guess it was kind of a German Club because they talked about the differences between Germany and the United States and the ways things are similar too. They met 6 times over the summer and learned a lot.
Review of Service
The German lady we went to was very good with children of this age group and she had a way of making the unfamiliar words come alive for the kids. It started out as lessons to learn a new language and ended up more as a friendship and cross cultural exchange which was an unexpected bonus. We had about 8 kids that came regularly and that was a very good size for this kind of thing. Although they aren't really fluent in German, the kids continue to use German words and expressions and I think they will all want to take German in a school setting.
Tips
Kids really do learn foreign languages easier than most adults. If you have a chance to expand your child's horizons in this manner, make the most of it. It is a wonderful way to learn about other cultures.
