the Cost of Freelance Writers

I needed a series of 23 articles written between 450 and 500 words each. They were all on a specific topic. I needed them to be written in a blog style conversational tone. I paid a writer $75.00 for this series of 23 articles.

This didn't work out very well for me. I posted the request on a message board, completely unsure of how much to ask for this project. I asked for writing submissions and quotes. I found someone with the style of writing I was looking for who quoted $75.00. The problem was that I did not like the finished product at all. I was looking for something halfway between sounding professional and conversational I guess because what I ended up getting sounded like notes passed between high school students. My target demographic was young professionals and it just didn't work at all. As our agreement had no stipulations for me not liking the work I didn't feel comfortable rejecting it so I did pay and ended up writing the articles myself.

If I had it to do over again I would ask for one paid 450-500 word article. Then if I didn't like it I could have moved on to the next candidate instead of having put all my eggs in one basket.
