the Cost of Freelance Writers

I hired a professional freelance writer to write a speech my boss was giving on foreclosure proceedings. The speech was to be approximately 25 minutes in length and included a power point presentation. I created the power point presentation and the writer incorporated it into the presentation.

I think it would have taken me less time and energy to write the speech myself. My boss went with a cheaper writer who had plenty of speech writing experience but not in the field we work in. Instead of taking it upon himself to learn about foreclosures, the writer asked me for information. I spent hours going over the ins and outs with him. When we began, I gave him an outline of the points my boss wished to make as well as the power point presentation. I feel like that should have been enough information for him to do most of the research himself and just ask me for minimal help with understanding perhaps some of the more technical aspects. Instead I was his primary source.

Definitely be willing to pay a little more to work with someone who actually has expertise in the field you want them to write about or is willing to do the research on their own. Otherwise, you may as well write it yourself.
