Description of service
I had a breast reduction that included a consultation and screening period of 3 months leading into the surgery to demonstrate that I was a solid candidate for the surgery. I did have health insurance at the time, so the out of pocket cost for me was much less than the actual price of $23000. It was essentially a $250.00 coinsurance, but this will vary for everyone as all coverages vary. The actual surgery was only an outpatient procedure, although I did stay over night to monitor how things were going. Following the surgery were several visits to assure that all of the incisions were healing correctly. Things went so well that my surgeon was declaring that it was their best work, but I'm sure each new surgery becomes the best.
Review of Service
The service in my surgeon's office was fantastic. Where the surgery to be done was on what most folks would consider a very sensitive location it was comforting that the surgeon was very confident in his abilities. It was also a comfort having a female nurse in the room. At the hospital, things went so fast it's tough to remember, although I do remember that they had promised anxiety medicine the day of the surgery and they never gave me a chance to take it. I was under in a heart beat and the next thing I remember is the recovery room. Which all in all is the best way to go through with any procedure.
Tips
Be prepared for before and after pictures especially if you have health insurance as they may need them to document the medical necessity of the services. Your identity is obscured as much as possible to protect you. Be ready to rest, this is an invasive procedure even if it is only a "day surgery." Remember to check with your surgeon prior to surgery if you know you will be anxious the day of the big event. They may be able to assist you. And as with any body alteration, make sure you are ready to make a life time change.
