Description of service
The price covered having calluses maintained at a nail salon. Technically it was a "manicure" but I didn't have my nails done as well.
As a full service nail salon, they also offer the usual manicure / pedicure / fake nails services, with prices ranging from $5 for simple nail polish to $55 for a full set of silk wrap nails.
Review of Service
I work out a lot and the knurled barbell brings up some pretty wicked calluses. If I let the calluses get too thick, they're prone to tearing, with all the blood and gore and possible infection (not to mention missed workouts) that goes with it. I've found I'm not particularly skilled with a callus shaver and that I tend to pick too deep when trying to peel them off myself after a shower. The nail salon is a nice intermediate. I go once every month or two and the results are good. No misshapen ridges or over-removed calluses to weaken the skin. I'm pretty pleased.
Tips
A hand held rotary sanding tool or a callus shaver (basically a razor specially designed for removing calluses) are great if you know how to use them. If you don't, you can hurt yourself just as bad or even worse than you would if you tore a callus. It isn't a bad idea to go to a professional to see how it's done before trying it yourself, or having someone who knows show you how.
