Description of service
One month of martial arts classes. This martial arts school had class on Mondays, Wednesday and Friday with optional classes on Thursday night and Saturday morning. The classes were about 1-2 hours long and included warm up followed by techniques. Saturday mornings were random subjects that included street self defense, kata forms, outside training (we went to the beach to train.) Thursday night was a focus on Judo and grappling.
You had to purchase martial arts clothing and equipment separately, but you were allowed to purchase from any where you chose.
Review of Service
I really enjoyed class and when I was there I was in the best shape of my life. The instructors didn't get paid so they were instructors because they wanted to be not because they saw dollar signs. We found them to be very well trained and they also had good grasp on first aid and body mechanics (arms were put back into their sockets on more than one occasion). They had a genuine care for the students and we were not to laugh at one another if we made a mistake. First timers and overweight people were made to feel very comfortable and offered frequent breaks if they couldn't hang in there. The physical skills that I learned were impressive but how they taught us to views others was even more so.
Tips
A coung-nhu school is focused on several different martial arts, they study karate, judo, tae kwon do, vovinam, boxing, tai chi, and wingchun. It is hard work. if you have any medical conditions check with a doctor first. Exercise outside the dojo is highly encouraged and jogging will definitely help you keep from being winded so quickly.
