Description of service
I paid $60/month for classes at an aikido school. The school offered three or four classes a day, at different levels, and you can go to as many as you are able to. I went to two or three a week.
The uniform cost $42, which was obviously a one-time investment.
Each class was about ten people, ranging from absolute beginners to black belts. The instructor of the day would pair people up either according to similar levels or pair experienced students with new students, depending on the objectives of the day.
Review of Service
The classes were great - the instructors really knew what they were doing and were, for the most part, excellent teachers. Also, the studio was only one block from my house! Ultimately, I just didn't have the time to commit to the classes, so I stopped going.
The classes were good exercise and also worked my mind. The main problem I have with exercise is getting bored, so martial arts is great for me. It keeps me interested as well as physically fit. I just wish I had had more time.
Tips
Most martial arts studios will give you a free trial period, even if it's only for one class. Find out if you can either observe a class or two or participate in a free class so that you can find out if the studio is a good fit for you.
For anyone else who struggles with getting bored during exercise, martial arts is a great way to deal with that. There are many martial arts techniques, so you might have to look around until you find one that you want to try.
