the Price of General Contractors

We hired a general contractor to build a deck on the back of our house. the deck we wanted was relatively small, about ten feet by ten feet. We wanted it big enough to fit a few chairs and maybe a BBQ grill. We knew of a contractor that just built a deck on a neighbors house that was much bigger than the one we wanted and they paid $5000. We could not afford to spend that much so we thought we would go with something about half the size of theirs. We hired the contractor that they used and the contractor came out to give us the estimate, he quoted us a price of $1800- $2300. We ended up paying $2000 for the complete total job and we were very happy with the end results and the price.

I would recommend this contractor who built our deck, just as our neighbor recommended him to us. We were very happy with the complete job and the price they charged.

You need to decide how much you are willing to spend on any one job and then get as many estimates as you can. The prices will vary a great deal from contractor to contractor. If you know someone who has recently used a contractor to do a similar job, you may want to ask them. If not, look in your local yellow pages.
