Description of service
This is what this frou-frou dermatologist billed me for my initial visit, which lasted all of 10 minutes. My wait time was much longer. There is no breakdown given, but was just labelled ‘consultation’. The fee only covers skin analysis under a microscope and an assessment of problem areas and possible solutions. The dermatologist also gave me a short briefing on how I should clean my face and moisturize day and night, as well as the using sunscreen to prevent wrinkles which I might watch out for now that I am 35. I could have gotten the same tips from a magazine or a cosmetic counter in a department store!
Review of Service
I was very unhappy with this dermatologist because she was so hard-sell. I felt that the dermatologist wanted to get as much business from me as possible. I had to emphasize that if it is not covered by my insurance, I would rather not do a procedure. In the same way, I told her that if it is not medically necessary, I do not want to undergo a recommended treatment. I think the initial consultation fee of $300.00 was highway robbery, I could have already gotten one facial/ acid-peel from a good doctor. Fine, the office was very posh and well-decorated and resembled a spa. The furniture obviously expensive and well-maintained (they had white carpeting and white couches!). The address is obviously part of its market positioning, as it was located in the best part of the city. But as I said, I could have gotten more bang for my buck with a well-reputed dermatologist.
Tips
Don’t fall for promotions. This doctor visited my office to give ‘gifts’ and discount coupons as an introductory come-on. Get recommendations from friends.
