Description of service
I went into the dermatologist for a yearly exam and had a few things I wanted looked into. I had some skin tags on my upper body and wanted these taken off. I also had an itchy area on my thigh. I expected the doctor to just take care of these and send me on my way. He took of the skin tags, 6 in all, and the itchy area on my thigh was cut out and sent to a pathologist. He really had to dig it out.
Review of Service
I felt that he did a good job, but he never used to charge for each skin tag he cut off. It used to be covered under an office visit for $60.00. The skin that was sent for a biopsy came back with some cancerous cells. The doctor had me get this prescription to use on it that was quite expensive. I was also quite nervous about the cancer word, but he assured me that the cancerous cells were just on the very top and after using this medication, it would clear up. Also, the incision where he cut took a long time to heal and bled quite a bit. He acted like it was no big deal. Maybe I needed a little more reassurance!
Tips
Before having any work done by a dermatologist, make sure you know what every little thing costs. Just because it was x number of dollars last year doesn't mean it is going to cost the same this year. Before the doctor does any type of work, ask questions. If something has cancerous cells, does that mean I'm in a lot of trouble? One more thing, compare the costs of different dermatologists. Find out what their office visit is and what everything else costs. There are many different doctors out there, so just because you have gone to the same one for years doesn't mean you can't change.
