Description of service
My father married a woman from Canada. Once they were married she was interested in becoming an American citizen. We hired a lawyer to help her with the paperwork and legal hurdles.
We paid a $1500 retainer for the attorney. We did pay for various filings and paperwork but the lawyer fee was $1500.
Review of Service
We had a lot of people telling us that hiring an immigration lawyer was a waste of time. It is true that all the information you need is available at various websites on the internet. However, the immigration process is long, stressful and worrisome. My stepmother was constantly worried that she was forgetting something, that something was filled out incorrectly. Basically that something, anything, was going wrong that would not only prevent her from becoming a citizen but would somehow get her deported. Once we hired a lawyer, her mind was put at ease. We simply had to follow his directions. He came highly recommended, communicated well with us, called us back within a day of leaving him messages and was very understanding. Great experience.
Tips
It is definitely worth the money to hire a lawyer and save yourself the worry and the hassle of going around gathering all kinds of forms and trying to figure out how to fill them out and where to turn them in.
