Description of service
We were going to be traveling just before the Christmas holidays and there had been some robberies in our neighborhood around that time of year previously, so we decided to hire a house sitter to stay at the house and keep it safe. The person that we found for the job was a woman in her mid-30s, and she stayed at our house for the 8 days that we were away. She went to work during the day, but came home during her lunch break to check on the house and she then stayed there overnight. We paid her a flat rate of $500 for the time, plus we left a refrigerator and pantry full of food that we gave her permission to use if she wanted.
Review of Service
Our house was safe while we were away, and we checked in with the house sitter a few times during the week just so that we knew things were taken care of, so overall we were very satisfied with the service. The cost of the service was fair and we were able to go away and relax on our trip knowing that someone was at home protecting our property and our house. Everything turned out fine, and we pleased with our decision to hire the house sitter.
Tips
If you are going to be away from home for more than a couple days and you are concerned about the safety and security of your house, it is worth considering the use of a house sitter to give you comfort while you are gone. A flat rate is also preferable to going with a daily rate or some other schedule because if your flight is delayed or you can't get home at the exact scheduled time, it won't cost you more money.
