Housesitting prices vary greatly depending on the amount of work that will be required and whether or not you use a professional or just a college student or friend. What it included for me was someone staying at my house for a full week, watering my plants and taking in my mail. My house had been broken into a few weeks before I left so I wanted someone there the full time other wise I might have just asked the neighbors to look in occasionally. For people with pets or in the summer when a garden needs more care it may cost up to $100 per week.

I had a friend of a friend house sit for me and it went well. She did everything I asked and left the place very tidy when she left. I called once to check in and she let me know that everything was going well.
Tips
Before you hire a professional make sure that you can't access your social network for a cheaper and more personal house sitter. I felt much more secure knowing that a friend of a friend was at my house instead of a stranger. College students or people visiting town are great potential house sitters.
