The online banking experience is actually a pretty inexpensive one. I pay very few fees, and get quite a few benefits. Plus, it's really great to be able to go on line at any time I want and check balances, transfer funds, and pay bills from the web site! I get quite a few benefits, including:

The free worldwide ATM use is actually the best benefit, as you can use any ATM in the world and it's free! At the end of each month, the ATM fees are returned to you in the form of a deposit equal to the fees that were charged to your account. Many online banks offer this service to compete with the brick and mortar type banks. It is so useful when traveling, or when cash is needed in a pinch and there's no ATM for your bank nearby.
Review of Service
The service quality is impeccable. They answer complaints or questions as soon as possible, to retain their customers. Plus, much of it is possible to do online, so questions can be asked and answered via e-mail. For the price (free!) it's a great value! The only negative is that you can't go to some place physical and talk to a person, or make a deposit in person.

Look around, as many online banks offer different services and price points. It's important to comparison shop, just like in other financial areas!
