Description of service
The insurance cost covered insuring a rental boat for a three day weekend's use, including trailering it about 50 miles.
It's our usual insurance company and they offer a variety of insurance policies from home owner's insurance to car and motorcycle insurance. Prices vary depending on what's being insured and how big a risk it is.
Review of Service
We went up to Lake Powell for Memorial Day weekend and decided to rent a ski boat to play with while we were up there. The boat seemed in good condition, and the engine started and ran well, but the rental place didn't offer insurance. So we gave our insurance company a call. The guy we talked to had never heard of what we wanted, but the insurance agent said he would call us back in half an hour when he had more info for us. So we sat at the boat rental place with the boat and talked with the other people who came in to rent. A couple people were scared away when we told them we were waiting for our insurance guy to get back to us because the boat rental place didn't have any.
The insurance guy called back when he said he would and let us know he could insure the boat for the weekend but that it would cost $50, which I think is a bit pricey. We had him add the cost to our monthly insurance bill.
We ended up not needing the insurance, but I've heard rumors that the rental place now offers it.
Tips
When dealing with an unknown quantity like a rental car or especially a boat, which most people don't use regularly enough to be as familiar as they might like to be, it's good to have insurance.
