Description of service
I had a roof leak near my fireplace during a bad storm. I needed a roofer out NOW! But it was in the middle of the night and I had no choice but to let it continue leaking. The next morning, I called the original roofer that installed the roof less that three years ago before I purchased the home. He said that the prior owner had somehow damaged it. I told him I need him to fix it. This was a back and fourth argument for two weeks. Luckily, there wasnt any more rain during this time. I am one of the few that actually meet the seller of this home by mistake and shared contact information. So I called him and asked about the roof and he said that this is why the roof was recently replaced is due to the leaks.
Review of Service
The roofer finally came out to fix the issue and I advised that this is a prior leak that he was supposed to fix when the roof was put on. He denied it and said that he did it right and someone came up on the roof and cut the flashing. He said to fix it would cost over 550.00! Little did he know that I am a licensed state adjuster in all but two states in the USA. ANd I know how much the repair would cost as well as how much the material would cost as well. No more than 250.00. I told this to the roofer and he said, "No way!" I then told him that for the profit part of the thirty minute job, I will pay an additional 100.00.
He did the job and so far so good...
Tips
Contractors judge the area you live in by how much they mark up the price. Dont be afraid to chip away at their costs. They usually will come down if they want the job unless they are a specialist or a dummy.
