Description of service
Two different rooms had leaks when it rained. Problem was the roof needed repairing. Shingles needed prying up, roof needed plywood patching, two places needed the pitch of the roof rebuilt, so the water would drain off better, roof paper needed to be placed over work done and new shingles needed to be laid on top of the roof paper. Total cost for supplies was $450. Total cost of labor was $1350 (mainly due to having to redo the pitch in two places, and for removing the old materials). It took two men three days to complete this job.
Review of Service
Roof repairs were done above satisfactory. The next time it rained really hard, we had no inside leaks. We live in a very old house (1863) and getting the pitch of the roof redone took some calculating. The men were excellent in matching the new shingles with the old shingles, so that the entire roof did not need to be replaced. The only thing that I did not particularly like was the old materials that were taken off the roof before repairs were thrown into a pile on the ground. This was okay, but they did not pick up the discarded material until the following weekend. I had to worry about the dog and kids getting hurt on the pile. But that is a very minor detail, compared to the satisfaction of a job well done and they completed it in three days, which is not much of an inconvenience at all.
Tips
Get a detailed estimate of what you are going to need to have done. Anything extra, make sure they ask ahead of time, before they actually do it. Anticipate and question more damage discovered, once they start tearing off the old roof. If you don't need the entire roof redone, make this clear from the start.
