My band has contracted with a local artist we like to design multiple show posters. He is paid a fee of $40.00 per poster and we request he submit them as .PDFs so they are easily editable. In addition we are allowed to reuse the designs as blanks for future poster, so we have amassed a good collection.

Our artist is amazing, and we sought long and hard for this sort of relationship. Of course, like all artists, the timing and scheduling could be better. Rarely does he submit by the requested date, but we feel the price that we get is easily worth dealing with the hassle. HE is very responsive to style and content request and take a great deal of pride in his work.

If your trying to really define an artistic or branded image for a band the single best thing you can do is find a visual voice for it. We reviewed many local artist when looking for our guy. Also it might take a little convincing to get them to work for what is a pretty small price tag. Of course there is the hope that as you grow so will the reward for the art work. Just make sure you find someone that will really take pride in seeing their art all over town, and try and pay them better when they make your sweet album cover.
