Description of service

Once a week, this service sends out packages of organic fruits and/or veggies to people. The $26 is for a small box which has 4 fruit types + 5 veggie varieties and it includes shipping. Since I am outside their delivery area, they ship it to my door via UPS. That includes a shipping box and 1 or 2 cold packs per order.

Review of Service

I was quite impressed by how good most of the produce was. Most of it was fresh, although some was very ripe and needed to be eaten quickly. Unfortunately, I've received the occasional overripe fruit, rotting/moldy piece of produce, and leafy vegetable covered in dead insects. I emailed once but received no response. That's when I decided to complain by phone or multiple emails (in case one didn't go through) the next time it happened, and perhaps cancel my subscription. However, it hasn't happened again since. I'm actually considering buying a bigger box now.

The packaging improved. Now there's good insulation and two cold packs per box, compared to one pack when I started ordering. I save the cold packs. My service utilizes non-toxic, reusable packs.

There's a feature to replace items you don't like. You can blacklist some produce, and check off the ones you like. If the disliked produce is shipped by default that week, they will try to substitute it with produce you do like. I've had several substitutions like this and am very pleased with them.

Tips

I would make sure that if you are not in their delivery area, they are close enough that shipping will be fast. If possible, choose a delivery date you can be home to put produce in the fridge as soon as it comes.

Of course, prices should be reasonable. Factor in the time and gas/transport fee of going to a brick-and-mortar store, the typical organic selection in your area, and local prices for organic produce.

If the service chooses produce for you based on seasonal availability, and you don't like all the produce they offer, make sure you can do substitutions.
