One month's access to local job listings  more... close row

Description of service

The price is for one month's access to a (not field specific) employment finder's local (and national/international) job boards. The service also attempts to fit listed jobs with the users' skills and preferences. There is no fee for employers to post job listings.

Review of Service

I have my doubts about the value of this as I ultimately found my most recent bit of contract consulting work through word of mouth recommendations and haven't found any work through them, but the business model has promise. Rather than the usual manner of having employers pay for the listings, job seekers pay for access to the listings. This shows in the numerous and various listings from employers you don't otherwise see on job boards. Unfortunately because of my somewhat specialized field few of the listings were appropriate for me.

Tips

Normally I would say "don't pay someone to find you a job" unless you're a musician or actor or other entertainer, where such practice is well-established, as headhunting firms and the like are paid on commission by employers to find them employees.

Having the process set up this way isn't going to appeal to job seekers on the low-end of the income scale, as $30/month can be a big deal for people just starting out in life. Rather it would seem to benefit people who might otherwise go to headhunters for job placement as they can use the fact that the employer isn't paying headhunters' commissions to negotiate a higher salary.

This happens because headhunters usually take a much bigger cut than $30/month, albeit only if you actually get the position they hooked you up with. So it may be worth the risk to you to try odd employment services. Just don't get conned into paying money over and over again for leads that don't turn into work, and be sure you're getting market value for the work you do.
