Description of service
One-way airport limousine service from Woodside, NY to JFK International Airport. $29.00 for the limo fee and $5.00 tip for the driver. The trip took 45 minutes due to heavy traffic.
Review of Service
I chose a local limousine service in hopes of getting a cheaper rate compared to the bigger Manhattan-based companies. I paid $20 dollars less and the company said that they could even go as low as $13.00 for a pick-up during weekday off-peak hours.
The car (a Lincoln sedan) showed up five minutes ahead of time and the driver called me on my mobile phone instead of just honking the horn. This is good because I live on the 5th floor and would not otherwise have known that the car was already outside.
Unlike some who just stand there and look at you, this driver helped to load my luggage into the trunk. After telling him my destination, I just sat back and relaxed. The driver appeared knowledgeable about where he was going and did not rely on his GPS at all. He was quiet and did not attempt to make small talk. Best of all, he was not constantly talking on his mobile phone as some drivers are wont to do. Not only is that very irritating, it is also worrying because the driver's attention is not fully on the road.
I prefer using the limo service instead of taking the Air Train or hailing a cab because with the limo service I get door-to-door pick-up and do not have to worry about lugging heavy bags through the train station or a busy street. Air travel is stressful enough; getting to airport should not add to your problems.
Tips
Check the internet for local limousine companies. I found several in my area and called at least three of them to compare their rates.
Call at least 24 hours before your preferred pick-up time to make sure that the limo service has a car available. This is especially true for local companies that may have smaller fleets.
