Description of service
A pediatric dentist may be your best choice if your child has trouble with his teeth. My son's baby teeth were slow to fall out. When the roots died it created an abscess. The first tooth was pulled by our regular dentist with novacain. My son didn't know what to expect so there was only a normal amount of crying. A few months later, it happened again and another tooth had to be pulled. It was horrible dragging him to the dentist. I had to wait outside so I didn't hear the screaming. When I saw the third abscess, I decided I had to take him to a pediatric dentist to have nitrous oxide (laughing gas) while the procedure was performed.
Review of Service
The pediatric dentist scheduled an immediate appointment to review my son's mouth. There was a $75.00 evaluation fee not covered by my insurance. No work would be done on the day of the evaulation. This was just to meet the dentist and develop a care plan. I'm happy I went there because not only did the abscessed tooth need to be pull, another baby tooth was hitting an adult tooth and needed to be extracted too. The dentist also recommended sealants for his molars since he is cavity prone. The dentist explained to my son what would happen during the series of visits and made him feel comfortable. I had to pay for the items my insurance did not cover: evaluation fee, laughing gas and sealant.
Tips
No one likes going to the dentist, but it should not make you cry either. If your child is stress at the regular dentist definitely try one who specializes in children. Their waiting room is child friendly. The staff works with children every day and knows how to make them feel comfortable.
