I had my septum pierced at a local piercing joint. The septum is the place between your nostrils and is different than your typical nose piercing which is usually on the side of your nose. This is a particularly painful place to have pierced. I was warned about this and because I had several piercings already I thought I could handle it. I was definitely surprised though at just how much it hurt and how much it bled. When I was shopping around for a piercer I found the one I chose to be very intelligent and professional. However when I actually had it done I was little disappointed in their bedside manor. When they pierced my septum it started bleeding really badly. I felt like the piercer should have been prepared for this. Instead they took their time to walk across the room to get some gauze. In that time I got blood on my shirt which I later had to throw out.

One thing that's very important when choosing a piercer is finding someone who can anticipate possible problems and be ready for it. Talk to your piercer about any problems they think might come up and ask them how they prepare for them.
