the Cost of Mobile Broadband Internet Access for a Computer

3G Mobile internet service through a USB device connected to my laptop computer. I get up to 1.5 MBPS internet, depending on my location. Most locations are slower, but in the inner city areas and at airports and suce the speed is great. I pay $60.00 a month for the service from the same company that provides my cell phone. It includes unlimited access to the internet anywhere my device can find signal. The actual device cost me $99 after the mail in rebate of $50.00.

The service is just okay. It runs slow most of the time, even though they consider it broadband. I bought it thinking it would always be at a 1.5 mpbs speed, but that only happens when I go into the city. I use a speed test website and I would say I average about 700 kbps, which is about half as advertised, but still way faster than dial up. My biggest problem is the price. $60 is alot to pay for one month of internet service that I don't even use that much. I did shop around, and this was the cheapest available in my area.

Shop around and see what you need. Sometimes, just a simple wifi plan will do if all you need is occasional internet service. If you need to have more wireless freedom, look for low costing plans with low costing devices.
