My 6 year old little girl was doing ballet classes, but the same studio also offers hip hop dancing, so she recently switched to hip hop. The cost per month is $60 which includes two practice sessions a week (about two hours each time) and once a month they have a recital.

My daughter loves it. She thinks hip hop is "cooler" than ballet, but I disagree. I have to say it is a lot different than what I expected. I thought hip hop was going to be all dirty, but it's really not. It's just a different kind of ballet with urban music. She has the same instructor as the traditional ballet classes, and the instructor helped me put my mind at ease by saying letting my little girl take different classes will help diversify her dancing. Overall, this is a great school for hip hop dancing that I would recommend to anyone.

Not all dancing schools offer hip hop, so calling around to find one is a must. If you live in a larger area, you will have more options and can compare prices. Also, make sure your child is having fun and is being safe. It's fun to be competitive, but some schools will go too far.
