Description of service
This is the fee for a new patient exam with a licensed chiropractor. It included examination and evaluation, x-rays of my mid- and lower back, electro-stimulation therapy, accupressure, and adjustment. The evaluation consisted of the chiropractor discussing my symptoms, reading my x-rays, and having me move in various directions to ascertain whether or not I had herniated a disc or had any other spinal deformities. He also evaluated my health history and my diet/exercise habits. The electro-stim therapy takes about ten minutes and involves pads being placed on your back and sending pulsating signals to your muscles. Accupressure involves the doctor applying pressure to the source of the muscle spasm to release the spasm and reduce pain. Finally, there is the adjustment and stretching of the spine, which involves the chiropractor manipulating misaligned vertabra and placing them back into proper alignment.
Review of Service
When I entered the chiropractor's office, I could barely sit, stand or bend. When my evaluation revealed I had done no serious damage, I was greatly relieved. That alone was worth the money. After I was evaluated, the doctor began the electro-stim therapy and the accupressure to alleviate my pain. The stim pads sends a massaging-type of signal to the muscles. This feels fantastic and provides some instant relief, especially because I had moist heat applied to the area at the same time. After that, he pressured the muscles to work out the knots in my back and restore circulation to the area. Then he adjusted my back and my neck. It felt great and immediately restored mobility to my back. I walked out feeling a lot better, though he advised me that I might feel sore the next morning, which I did.
Tips
Make sure your chiropractor is licensed and in good standing with his profession. Recommendations from satisfied patients are a great way to locate a good chiropractor. Chiropractic work does not usually fix a problem in one visit. In my case, I visited him 3 times a week for almost three weeks before my problem was completely resolved. Do not get discouraged if you do not get instant relief. Chiropractic work is a process and it takes awhile for muscle spasms and maladjusted spines to heal fully. Each time you go, you are doing something to solve the problem, even if it doesn't always feel that way.
