Description of service

The price was to have several hundred pounds of debris from a pruned mesquite tree removed from our property and taken to the dump by the city.

The city does all kinds of stuff. Some whether you hire it to or not.

Review of Service

During a storm, a chunk of mesquite split from the trunk of the tree in our front yard. This unbalanced the tree and left what was still standing straining at one side. We decided to have it pruned to keep the whole thing from toppling over.

So we hired a landscaping service to do the work for us. They also cut up the piece of tree that collapsed. They were, however, deported in the middle of doing the work and were as such unable to complete the job and haul away the debris.

Don't get me wrong, I don't blame the workers for not finishing the job, but there is apparently some obscure city regulation that says we need a license or a permit to dispose of this much yard waste (we tried taking it in a rented truck to the dump, and got turned away when they saw how much we were throwing out (about 800 lbs)) ourselves.

It took a few weeks for the city to come out and in the mean time we were given a citation about not having cleaned up the debris in our yard. Bloody idiots.

Tips

If we were smart, we would have had the debris mulched then composted, or turned into firewood for barbecuing or something. Either would have been less costly as renting either a wood chipper or chainsaw would have been cheaper than the city's cost to haul the stuff away.
