Description of service
I paid to have the following performed:
From my very old, rickety garden shed: removal of two very large wooden desks, one tote of misc. computer parts, a steel storage cabinet with expired garden chemicals, an old pool liner, two boxes of unknown junk
From the area outside the shed: removal of about 50 broken cinder blocks, some old flower pots, broken furniture pieces, a huge wood & wire duck blind, two old doors, and misc. wooden pieces lying around
Also: removal of just the end of a swing set (leaving the fort intact), and the removal of a 6 x 4 x 4 wood and wire rabbit pen.
Review of Service
The company that hauled the junk did all of the removal into a container truck that holds about 15 yards (like a dumpster on wheels). They cleaned up the site where they had to use chain saws on the swing set and rabbit pen. As a side note - this company also recycles as much as possible, and they have arrangements for hazardous waste (i.e., chemicals and paint). Many other hauling companies do not take any kind of hazardous waste.
I think for the amount of stuff they removed, considering that they did all the labor, that $310.00 was a great price. It was less than the cost of renting a dumpster and the crew was in and out in one day (as opposed to waiting for a container to be dropped off, us loading it ourselves, and getting it picked up).
Tips
If you are planning to rent a dumpster and do-it-yourself, I would recommend getting an estimate from this type of company also. In addition, check to see if they take hazardous waste, and what their arrangements are for its disposal. You may find it well worth your while!
