Description of service
The campground we stayed at was located in the northern region of New York State. It's a beautiful site with a huge lake for all kinds of boating and water recreation. They offered different ammenties when it came to how you wanted to camp. You could either stay on a site that allowed you to park an RV, or you could choose a site where you could pitch a tent. Many of the sites had a spicket for running water. There were bathrooms not far from each site. You had the option of picking which site you wanted. You could be on a hill under trees, or out in the open fields or even near the lake. Each site had a fire pit where you could cook or just light a fire for warmth. The price of $25 per day was extremely reasonable, but this is for the site only. If you wanted to go boating, you would need to rent it for how many hours you wanted to use it for. Lets say a kayak or a row boat would usually be about $10 for a 2 hour period. This campground had a store where you could buy whatever you needed, including firewood which is very helpful incase it had rained and you needed dry wood to start a fire.
Review of Service
The campground personnel were very friendly. The staff and park rangers always kept a close eye on what goes on around the entire site. They keep the noise level to a minimum, so other campers aren't disturbed. They are also right there for you to make sure you are ok, if a storm was either about to hit, or has already passed through. There is nothing negative I can say about this particular campground. I was there twice and each time I was there, I had a wonderful, fun filled time. The prices of each amenity was reasonable. The only thing I would think they raised the price on is the firewood you would buy in the camp store. They know you will need it, so they raise the price a bit. But, if you are lucky, and there has been no rain, you could hunt for your own firewood in the forests. The site we stayed on happened to be in a secluded part on the grounds. We preferred it that way. When you get to the campground, you may ask for a site like this, or whatever site you would prefer. Usually they accommodate you unless the site is already taken.
Tips
One piece of advice I can give is, try to make sure you go when you know the weather is going to be decent. At this particular site, we lucked out. But in the past, I had went to a site before I checked the weather, and a severe thunderstorm bombarded us for 3 days straight. We got stuck in the tent the whole time, and it was so bad, we couldn't even leave. It was a very scary experience, especially when your in a nylon tent under trees. So, please, check your forecast before you go.
Also, come as prepared as possible. Remember, camping in a tent is not staying in a hotel. You will have to cook on an open pit or a BBQ if you bring one with you. Try to make your stay as comfortable as possible. When I go camping, I try to make it as much as a home as possible. I bring an air mattress, camping stove, camping coffee pot, etc. The camp store has everything you need, but to save yourself some money, try to bring as much as possible from home.
Also, please be aware that you are sleeping and eating among nature and it's wild animals. If you are cooking food, dispose of it properly as to not attract bears or any other wild animal to your area. You must dispose of it in tight containers as far away from you as possible. Do not leave any opened food near you at any time.
