Description of service
I was fitted for contact lenses through my eye doctor's office. The doctor did not have them on hand, so he ordered them, and they came about a week and a half later. The fitting was $40 and the contacts were $220.
My contacts are two-week disposable contacts - I am supposed to take them out each night buy doing that, they will last for about two weeks. Since I definitely don't wear contact lenses every day, I get a four month supply, and they last me about a year. In addition, I don't really keep track of if I've worn them fourteen times - I just wear them until they rip or are not comfortable any more.
My contacts are soft contacts made for astigmatism, and cost a little more than regular soft contacts.
Review of Service
It would have been more convenient if my doctor had stocked the contacts, but they are not a normal prescription, so I can't really expect that.
Aside from having to wait for them to come in, the service was great. All of the fitting was easy and painless, although the doctor did say that I have a very unusual way of putting in contact lenses and that he'd never seen anyone do it quite like that.
Tips
Check and see if your insurance covers your contact lenses or the contact lens fitting(mine didn't, since I had already used it on glasses). Check and see if the doctor charges extra for the fitting, or if that is included in the price of the contacts.
Also, think carefully about what kind of contacts are best for you. There are pros and cons of every kind of contact lens.
