Description of service
Total cost of eye exam, follow up visit, pair of glasses and lenses for a six year old. This is the price without insurance, as we don't have eyecare coverage.
Review of Service
My son's school sent home a letter saying he needed to have his eyes checked, so I made an appointment at the local eye care facility. The inital exam cost 75 dollars, and that included a follow up visit once he recieved his glasses. The price of his frames and lenses came to abouth 175, and that was after they took 50% off. We were given a hard case for the glasses, cleaning material and a little tool kit. The glasses took an hour to make, and we have to go back in 3 months. All in all we were very satisfied with the service we recieved and spent less money than I thought we would have to.
Tips
When getting glasses for children, make sure to get scratch resistant lenses. Also, don't get actual glass lenses, but instead poly-carbonite or plastic lenses. Have the people there go over proper care of the glasses with your child, and make sure you're given a hard case rather than a soft one. They have all kinds of fun colors for kids. Make sure to not leave until the glasses are completely comfortable for your child, and note that all adjustments should be free. Make sure to check the policy and warrenty for the glassse you buy, and know that just because they tell you you should have 2 pairs - one for home and one for school - that if you have a careful child you really don't need that. That's just their way of making more money.
