the Cost of Eyebrow Waxing

I went to a salon located in a local big-name discount store, hoping to get my eyebrows waxed on short (that is, no) notice, without an appointment, just a couple of days before the holidays--an impossibility at most salons. To see the stylist of my choice (the manager, whom I know to be an excellent aesthetician with several years of experience), I had to wait approximately 10 minutes. The actual waxing job took less time than that. The process involved having my brows first smeared with some sort of moisturizing or conditioning lotion, then having the hot wax applied and removed (along with the eyebrow hairs). Afterward, stray hairs and hairs that grow down onto the eyelid were tweezed out and the process was finished. The actual wax job cost $8.00, and I gave a $2.00 tip.

Though I have had my eyebrows waxed at fancier and more expensive salons, this is my favorite eyebrow-wax-job so far. The stylist was confident and efficient. She suggested shaping my (somewhat unruly) eyebrows, not just waxing stray hairs, and I agreed to try it out. I was very pleased with the results. My eyebrows still looked very natural--not drawn-on or overplucked, as I'd feared. A few weeks have elapsed since I've had them waxed, and they still look pretty good. I've been able to maintain them easily by plucking out stray hairs with a pair of tweezers. Overall, I'd go back to this stylist as my first choice. She did a great job, spent a lot of time doing careful work, the wax and lotion used were good quality and the correct temperature, and I was very pleased with the results.

Not every stylist in the chain hair salons is going to be as qualified as the one I saw. I think it's a good idea to see a senior stylist or manager. Also, if you feel self-conscious about having your brows (or other facial parts) waxed, this probably isn't a good choice for you. The waxing procedure is done in the same chair that is used for hair washing, so you're kind of out in the open.
